FDA Warning Against Giving Dogs Bones

FDA Warning Against Giving Dogs Bones

Here is an oldie but a goodie. It is a bulletin from the FDA, put out in 2010, outlining a host of reasons to never give your dog bones to chew on or eat. No bones of any type. Not raw bones, not cooked bones, not poultry bones. Just no bones at all. The risks are too great. Click here for that pdf.

From my perspective the big concern is damage to teeth from chewing on hard/abrasive objects but this bulletin also mentions many other non-dental risks of letting your dog ingest bones.

Also have a look at my post on the Knee Cap Rule which focuses on the risk of dental fractures posed by chewing on hard items (not just natural bones).
