About Hale

Who is Fraser Hale and why should I care what he has to say?

Fair questions. I would be wondering the same thing if I were in your shoes.

I graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1984 and spent the next six years in small animal general practice. In the spring of 1991, I decided to limit my practice to dental and oral surgery for dogs and cats and struck out on my own, offering a roving referral service to clinics in Southern Ontario while also embarking on my formal training to become a dental specialist.

In 1994 I became a Fellow of the Adacemy of Veterinary Dentistry (first in Ontario, third in Canada) and took myself off the road, setting up a stationary office within a general practice in Guelph, Ontario. In 1997 became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (again, first in Ontario, third in Canada). In 2003 I moved into my own facility (also in Guelph), which was the first dental-only veterinary clinic in Canada.

Over the decades, I have provided dental and oral surgery for thousands of dogs and cats. I have published many articles in the professional and lay literature, and have contributed chapters to several veterinary textbooks. I have been an invited and voluntary speaker at conferences, large and small, around the world. I have served on boards and committees of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and the American College of Veterinary Dentistry and spent some years as Adjunct Professor to the Ontario Veterinary College. I have been a consultant to the Dental Folder on the Veterinary Information Network (www.vin.com) since 2003.

In 2005 I was named Fellow of the Year by the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and in 2010 was awarded the American Veterinary Dental Society Hill’s Research and Education Award.

While I retired from clinical practice in May of 2023, I still wish to remain active in the veterinary community, offering to share some of what I have learned with my colleagues and pet owners.
